It's time to stop attaching decks to emails
As our friends at Trainiac discovered, the open rate for attached slide decks are terrible — thankfully there's a better way

🤔 A tradition worth questioning
Slides aren't designed to be read, certainly not without a presenter, then why is it a quasi tradition to attach them to emails or invites?
That is the question an old friend of mine, Akshay and I were asking ourselves while chatting a few weeks back.
Akshay is one of the co-founders of Trainiac, a trailblazing online fitness service that connects you with a personal trainer through your phone. And in the midst of a pandemic, it turns out being able to get coached without leaving your house is quite handy.
It also turns out that Trainiac makes for an awesome employee benefit, which is why Akshay finds himself on a lot of email threads with companies interested in learning more. And it's in this situation, that Akshay normally attaches an intro deck to the thread, especially leading up up to a meeting.
But over time, Akshay noticed these attachments were rarely clicked, let alone viewed. It didn't take long for us to realize 'why'.
🧂 You're the missing ingredient
Despite having put together a beautiful deck, a deck all on its own, couldn't tell Trainiac's story. While in Trainiac's case it was Akshay's personality, his charisma, his voice, that was the missing ingredient, consider your own experience, how often were you the missing ingredient.
📹 Record a quick trailer
If your goal is to excite your meeting attendees, take a page out of Hollywood's playbook: record a trailer! Preview of an important and relevant takeway, don't spill all the beans, give enough information to create suspense.
And of course, StepTree is the easiest way to record a trailer like this. With StepTree's forgiving step-by-step approach to recording, and the ability to create custom templates, you can even record personalized trailers for every customer you engage with.
If you're looking for some help creating a template to do just that, message me on LinkedIn, or on our community Discord server.
